About Us...
The first chapter of AED was founded in 1926 at the University of Alabama. The formation of this first formal premedical honorary fraternity was quickly followed by several others. The year 1930 marked the first national convention of AED. Five chapters and one petitioning group attended this event. In 1962, the Society was incorporated in the District of Columbia as a non-profit, educational organization.
Today, Alpha Epsilon Delta is the world's largest organization devoted to premedical education. Membership exceeds 120,000 in 171 chapters. Approximately half of these chapters are in professional schools. AED functions with the objective to encourage and recognize excellence in premedical scholarship in order to stimulate appreciation for the study of medicine. We promote cooperation among students and educators in both premedical and medical education. AED binds together students with common interests with the goal to benefit health education and the community. You can learn more about the national organization here.
The University of Tennessee at Knoxville chapter of Alpha Epsilon Delta (Tennessee-Beta) was chartered on May 22, 1948 (Charter Number 46). Click here for more FAQs.
