Students can become pledges anytime, though you must become a pledge by September of the year you plan on applying for full membership. Pledge applications for the 2021-2022 year will not be accepted after October 30, 2021.
To be eligible to apply for national membership in 2022, pledge applications must be submitted by 5 pm on October 30rd, 2020. This year, AED created an online application in order to be compliant with COVID-19 guidelines. To become a pledge, complete the pledge application linked below and send in the $15 pledge fee application through Venmo- please include in the title your full name, "pledge application" and email (Venmo only @utkaed: please reach out if this is an issue).
MEMBERSHIP
Pledges wishing to become members must meet the following requirements before initiation in Spring 2022:

Affiliation with the organization as a pledge.

A minimum of three semesters of college coursework with at least 30 hours completed prior to Fall 2021. Fall 2021 can, however, be considered the third semester. (Transfer students need to finish one semester at UT to be eligible for membership.)

A cumulative grade point average of 3.20.

A science grade point average of at least 3.20 (this includes math courses).

6 attendance credits per semester. (Read more about the attendance requirement here.)
Note: Students whose grades do not meet the 3.20 requirement at the end of Fall 2021 may remain in pledge status.
A one-time $75.00 membership fee must be paid after notification of acceptance and prior to initiation (checks or money orders only payable to AED). This fee covers the payment of national dues.
Lastly, to remain in active status, initiated members must continue to accrue 6 attendance credits per semester. Only students who have qualified for national membership and have paid the initiation fee are considered AED members.
The date for initiation will be determined at a later time but will be in January 2022. The application deadline is to be determined. The application is in the form of a google form and is linked below.
